Bad Gnus Bookclub

I know that as the offseason drags on, many of you escape to a good book to kill time until the next time you step on the the diamond. Many of our wives have an enriching and stimulating time each month discussing a book they have recently read. It's time for the fellas to join in the fun!

The Bad Gnus Bookclub is open to all current and past members of the Bad Gnus and any friends or members or the Bad Gnus. So basically, anyone that wants to show.

Our first meeting will be at the Cal Expo Harness Racing Grandstand on Thursday, October 9. Posttime, err, Meeting time will be at 6:30. I hope that all of you can make it. Please RSVP so I know how many racing forms, I mean discussion topic sheets I should print out. Our next meeting will likely be on a November Monday evening in a quiet corner of Mandango's or somewhere else with a big screen and drink specials.

We still need to hammer out the details of our first book. Here are the choices: The Kite Runner, A Million Little Pieces, The October 5th issue of Sports Illustrated and Tuesdays with Morrie. Lemme know.

Hope to see a big turnout!

Bad Gnus Brush with (D-List) Celebrity

It's time for a new photo section of the world's most renowned sports blog about 40 year old fat guys playing softball. It is the Brush with Celebrity section! Please send me photos of you with anyone who someone might have heard of before.

First up, Bill Moebs with Flava Flav! How awesome is this?!? Bill runs into Flav at his high school reunion in Modesto. It poses so many questions? Most obvious, what time is it? But also, what is Flava doing in Modesto? Were they high school classmates? Did Flav cheat off Bill in Algebra 2? Did Bill cheat off Flav in Ebonics 1A? Did Bill not have anything else in his closet to wear to his class reunion? Dude, these guys only see you every 5 years.

I haven't seen anything this pink next to something this black since I saw Pete's dog, Marshawn licking himself while watching a Cal football game.

Thanks for sending the picture, Bill! This is the quiet time of year for the blog, so send in those vacation pics and brushes with celebrity.

On a softball related note, Ahern defeated the WIN Financial Roiders in the Championship game stopping what would have likely been a Detroit-style celebration of Arden Park complete with cars turned over and looting of local business. Nice work, B Diddy and friends!
